Ramón: Downloading Many Videos Does Not Make You Know a Lot
Well this one is a picture by a guy who’s a writer from my land from Jalisco. And the other pictures in black & white they are his because he was well known as a writer but he was also a photographer and he was an amateur photographer and his pictures are very beautiful pictures but he was not known as a photographer.
So you have many pictures of him?
No only these because I didn’t not know them. So maybe now after his death they will bring out more things that he did because when he was alive maybe he had his personal things or personal album but now after his death then people have realized that he also had pictures and that he wrote below them where they were and…
Where was the picture taken?
… He would put the information on it and so now we know that they’re his. He knew how to use the camera so if somebody likes something and likes something else then he will study it thoroughly and that’ll be good unlike us because I see something and I quickly say “Oh well I understand it already” but in the end you don’t really know it well. Do you know why I say that?
Because I’ve seen friends and here they download one video and download another video and do this and do that but in the end they’re like me, we are nothing, we don’t know anything and that’s like downloading many videos does not make you know a lot. Maybe you have seen many videos but you haven’t studied them thoroughly.
And so that’s what we’re missing, making good use of the things like the videos that we’ve been seeing. Well, many people don’t answer because they already forgot. They forgot already what they learned. So I think that is one of the very good tools but you need to know how to use it better. It’s not just a matter of downloading videos about this and that because in the end you don’t know anything. Because then you don’t specialize in anything.
For example I’m learning photography from there and I try to apply what I’ve learned on my camera because before, I would take pictures without knowing well about photography or this or that so there’s even some pictures that I look at them and I don’t like them. And so I think, “How do these other photographers, how do they do it?” and I look at pictures of somebody who is a photographer and I like those pictures and I don’t like my own pictures so what’s wrong? Well because they have studied it well and they know how to take pictures and I haven’t, so that’s what I want to do...
... Yes, I really like ‘em. This is a nice landscape it’s Sayula [in Jalisco]. This picture? The original picture of this? This and the line and this, what, when you’re up close you can see the thorns of this plant it’s a type of cactus and you would be able to see the thorns. Those cacti in Mexico, they give a big fruits like this and it’s delicious. It’s called pitaya (dragon fruit).
They have some here in the desert but it’s not the same. Oh they have more thorns than fruit. So the thing is, I admire other photographers except me. I’m not a good photographer but I admire good photographers and good painters like da Vinci and Botero and that crazy one Dali. All those, I admire them and I wonder how did they do it to imagine so many things. But now I have some idea but I cannot do all they do. Maybe little by little.
