Ramón: I'm Okay Here

Ramon

Why am I here? It’s because at my age in Mexico it’s a lot more difficult to find a job because there is a lot of youth. And here even if you are over 60 and you’re retired and they don’t have a full time job, maybe you can still work. And in Mexico if you go to look for a job and one is younger than me, the other person is the one who is going to get the job. I’m okay here, it’s not that I want to stay but I’m okay. I would like to learn some more technology or learn some skill so that if I go there I’m not just depending on anybody.

Ramón: Cactus

I’m learning photography. This is a picture of a landscape with a cactus by a guy who is a writer from my homeland, from Jalisco.

Estoy aprendiendo fotografía. Esta foto es de un paisaje con un cactus, tomada por un un hombre que es escritor allá en mi tierra, en Jalisco.

Pedro Infante: The Border Was Easier Before

In those days in L.A. most of us crossed through different borders, through Tijuana, Mexicali, Algodones or Tecate, almost all of them connect to Los Angeles. I have been through all those borders. Where I liked it most was in Mexicali, because every day I would work on this side picking melons, and by noon they pay you. At that time the border was just made of string with little wires on it. That’s it, there was nothing. In those days you would cross more easily.

Beatriz: The Toys I Clean Up

Yes, it’s the house of my first boss and that’s the kid’s toys. It’s all a mess when I arrive, and I hardly see her, I only see the mess in the house, and I care for her a lot because if she see that I am sad she worries. Um, I had a car accident and she was there for me, asked what she could do for me, and I care for her a lot … a lot. She has two daughters, and even though I have not had extensive communication with her over the last 5 years I have worked with her, but when she was pregnant, she was home more. Now the kids are grown, walking and she takes them to school.

Chino: Hiding in a Hole

man in hole in desert canyon wall

I like the idea of taking a picture in this little hole because I have this idea that I will be crossing the desert and maybe I’ll be hiding like this in a little hole in the desert. I was thinking that this is how it would be like to be hiding [from the border patrol], hiding like this in a little hole in the sand. So that is why I’m hiding in that little hole, but I’m always with thumbs up.
